The Challenge
A global oil and gas leader set out to deploy a digital vehicle diagnostics solution through its lubricants division, enabling quick engine and vehicle health checks at workshops worldwide. While a mobile-based app worked for most regions, several countries and high-security environments restrict mobile phones inside workshops - creating a major barrier to global adoption.
This introduced a set of layered challenges:
Inability to use mobile applications in regulated or mobile-restricted environments
Inconsistent adoption across regions due to varying IT and security policies
Dependence on personal mobile devices, raising compliance concerns
Need for a single solution that could work across diverse regulatory and IT landscapes
The client required a scalable diagnostics platform that could function both with and without mobile devices-without compromising speed, accuracy, or usability.
The Solution
Topcoder designed and delivered a cross-platform vehicle diagnostics solution, ensuring seamless usability across mobile and desktop environments.
The solution was built around four key components:
Mobile Application: Deployed on Google Play Store (Android) and Apple App Store (iOS), enabling technicians to perform fast engine and vehicle health scans in regions where mobile usage is permitted.
Desktop Application: A fully functional desktop version for workshops and countries where mobile phones are restricted, offering the same diagnostics capabilities via workstation-based systems.
Unified User Experience: Consistent workflows, diagnostic logic, and reporting across both platforms, ensuring standardized results regardless of access method.
Enterprise-Ready Deployment: Supports rollout across the client's global workshop networks, aligned with local compliance, security, and IT constraints.
This multi-platform approach ensured zero loss of functionality while enabling truly global adoption.
