The Challenge
Lenovo aimed to reinvent its marketing strategy by launching a global platform that invited creative minds to collaborate: the Lenovo Brand Expression Portal. This digital hub needed to attract creators and students worldwide to participate in branding contests, submit multimedia entries, engage with the Lenovo brand, and collaborate with peers.
The portal required end-to-end UX planning—wireframes, visual design, scalable architecture, and fully responsive HTML5 front-end prototypes—all aligned with Lenovo’s global brand standards. It had to accommodate multi-language support, social media integration, role-based content management, and a seamless user experience for both participants and Lenovo moderators.
The Solution
Topcoder led a full lifecycle crowdsourcing effort to design and build the Lenovo Brand Expression Portal. Through a series of wireframe, storyboard, system architecture, and HTML prototype challenges, our community created everything from intuitive navigation structures and user profiles to blog features, voting flows, and multi-stage contest workflows. The final HTML5 prototypes closely matched Lenovo’s branding and were built for scalability and easy CMS integration.
Participants tackled use cases for both users and Lenovo employees, designing experiences that supported social sharing, community engagement, and internal moderation—all while ensuring technical feasibility across devices and browsers.

The Impact
Lenovo gained a fully conceptualized and responsive platform design that reflected its innovation-driven identity. The solution helped Lenovo lay the foundation for a branded digital space where creatives could co-define the future of Lenovo’s marketing. By leveraging the Topcoder community, Lenovo accelerated ideation and prototyping timelines while tapping into global perspectives.
The project demonstrated how design thinking, combined with crowdsourcing, can create highly tailored digital experiences that connect brands to their audiences.
